‘Top 10 business risks and opportunities for mining and metals in 2022’, by E&Y reports ‘Environmental & Social’ as Top Risk faced by mining executives.

Above ground risks are the greatest challenge now to extractive projects and operations, according to the latest annual survey by E&Y.

“Mitigating geopolitical risk requires mining and metals
companies to take a proactive, diversified approach.

Now is the time to:

• Integrate political risk into broader strategic planning:
consider the impact of geopolitical trends when making
strategic decisions, and ensure there is clear ownership of
political risk within the organization.
• Engage with stakeholders: companies should proactively
seek opportunities for closer engagement with stakeholders,
including governments, to demonstrate how mining creates
long-term value for communities.”
